Collecting Your Brochures
ALWAYS go back on the day stated on the day slip
– even if it is late; just pick up those that are out so they are not seen to still be there in the morning.
– you want to create a good impression for yourself and the company, and want to be seen as reliable.
When collecting your brochures …
- Check it is your catalogue you are picking up – DO NOT PICK UP OTHER DISTRIBUTORS’ BROCHURES (they’ve paid for theirs as you have yours).
- Keep a record of which houses have not returned their brochures so you know where to call back to.
– Fast & Simple – note down only those house numbers where you have a brochure outstanding.
– What I Do – use your Street Sheet to record what has happened to your packs
E.g.: N = Not Looked L = Looked but no Order
NA=Not Again ££.pp = Order Value - Always check for an order before you move onto the next house
– check it has the customer’s address on it?
– if you can’t find the order form at the time, write the number and name of the road on the back of the day slip to check for it later
There is nothing worse than having an order without an address, as you can not then deliver it 😞 - Check for brochures in the porch, under the mat, behind plant pots & drain pipes etc. – look everywhere!
– if there is no book outside leave a callback slip. - Callback at least twice and make sure you ring the bell and knock at the door.
- Some people will very kindly BIN your books! – as you pay for the brochures, do not hesitate to ask for them to retrieve it for you if their bins have not yet been emptied!!
– do not deliver again to those houses where you know the book was binned and not returned. - Make a list of the addresses where brochures have still not been returned and callback again on the day when you are delivering orders in that street.
– there will be books that you never get back, so you will from time to time need to invest in more brochures to ensure that you still have enough to earn whatever it is you are wanting. - When speaking with people never imply it’s your area – you have no exclusive territory.
- Remember – being in the Retail Industry can mean your collections can sometimes be good and sometimes they will be bad. The averages play out across the 4-week sales period so keep working the brochures and it will improve. Look after your customers and they’ll look after you!
- Once you are established, and you are able to pre-plan your order delivery day, when picking up an order post a delivery slip through the letterbox to advise the customer of when they can expect delivery.
– this helps speed up your deliveries because customers know to have their payment ready for you.
Re-packing your brochures …
Remember …
When your brochures are out, your shop is open,
your brochures don’t make you money sitting in your house.
- Re-pack and re-distribute as soon as you can.
- Check all snap bags, remembering they are your shop window.
– wipe down those that are reusable
– replace those that are not reuseable.
No-one wants a dirty brochure pack pushed through their door, plus bags with holes let in the wet on the day of collection, which in turns damages your catalogues. - Work to a 4-6 week cycle so your customers see the books on a regular basis.
– if they are buying consumable items they need to be able to repeat buy these from you.
